More Lauri lore:

"First-year coach Will Hardy knew he wanted to do something different with Markkanen after watching him play for his home country.

"They used him as a ball-handler, they put him in isolation, they used him as a screener, they moved him around off the ball — and so really, the thing I learned from that is don't put him in a box," Hardy said. "Be willing to live with a few mistakes here and there. And just live with the fact that he's a really, really good player, and his size and athleticism and skill is a rare combination."

Hardy has allowed Markkanen to play without rules. He has given him the freedom to rely on his instincts, unshackling him from the boundaries of positions and roles. "

Another 30 point night for Lauri, but they are losing late in the 4th. He needs help but there isn’t much on the roster.

Dalen is being sent back to the G-League.

Can’t help but wonder what his development would have been at Arizona this year. I mean, no one should pass up a first round guarantee but I worry about how long his NBA career will be.

I saw it live. Might have been the greatest feat of spontaneous athleticism I’ve seen outside of like an Olympic long jump or something.

My jaw is still on the floor.

He actually started because Halliburton is injured.

Also, Mathurin led the Pacers in scoring tonight.

Benn had 26 points, 7 rebounds, and this sweet meme.

TJ started again and had 20 & 10.

York is averaging 23.2 points, 4 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Indiana Pacers’ developmental team. Elsewhere around the league, Brandon Williams is averaging 19.5 points, 7.1 assists and 4.6 rebounds for the College Park Skyhawks, the Atlanta Hawks’ G League affiliate. Williams, a Pac-12 All-Freshman at Arizona in 2018-19, made a brief stint with the Portland Trail Blazers last season.

Rawle Alkins is averaging 11.2 points and 6.4 rebounds for Salt Lake City, the Jazz’s affiliate. Alkins’ former Arizona teammate Kobi Simmons is averaging 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3.8 assists for the Greensboro Swarm, the affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets.

Another former Wildcat making his way in the G League is Brandon Randolph. Arizona’s leading scorer for the 2018-19 season, Randolph is now playing for the Wisconsin Herd, affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, where he’s averaging 9.9 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Stanley Johnson released by the Spurs but that could benefit him as he could get picked up by a playoff team. He plays his butt off so he deserves a better opportunity. The Spurs are just hoping for a high draft pick since they're garbage this year. I hope things work out for SJ.

Article about Dalen who got some recent run and played well in the Athletic.

https://theathletic.com/4259546/2023/02 ... ed_article
“Sometimes,” Terry said, “I’m just a little too happy to get the ball because it doesn’t always come to me.

“We’ve been working on it since I got here. It’s more so I feel like I’m a good catch-and-shoot shooter. It’s just when I get to moving, just make sure that I get a good base. Just make sure I follow through.”

Terry’s approach to defenses that might dare him to shoot seems sound as well. Part of being shot-ready is showing no hesitation when defenders send a clear sign of disrespect by sagging off.

“It’s an open shot,” Terry said. “You know how some guys if they get dared to shoot get discouraged? I’m, like, ‘If y’all don’t want to come out here, I’m going to make one. I’m going to keep shooting too.’ ”

Now if York plays in at least one game in the league in the next year, or so, he will be eligible for an NBA pension.
