The Cats are 16-13, but 9-5 in conference. Gotta give Vance credit and recognize that it can take a little time to get a new approach going. Pitching's been encouraging. Finale at Cal tomorrow, but still miles to go, as the saying goes.

Cats win 7-3 and sweep Cal. Candiotti has been a great pick-up. Also, some of the freshmen have been contributing.

Cats win again today and sweep on the road. 6 straight conference wins as they move to 10-5 in conference. Quite the turnaround and once again they only gave us 3 runs winning 7-3

Cats go to Stanford and win 12-1. Mason White hit two homers and drove in 6. Cats have won 5 consecutive road games. They went 4-14 on the road last year.

The starting pitching has been phenomenal all year. It looks like the relief pitching has made some gains over the past few weeks. If they make it to the NCAAs, they might be able to make some noise if they keep pitching this way.

Kevin Vance is a no brainer for assistant COY . What he has done with this staff is simply amazing. He has changed arm angles on several of the guys along with release points and they have shown great improvement

I’d go with my black lab, but we are making Pollo Asado for some family that’s in town.

The starting pitching through 6 innings gives the bats time to get a lead. The pen has been hot at times and clunky (see G1 and G3) so if we can get hot in that area, I think we win the conference and host a regional

Of course that is nowhere near the longest winning streak in UA history.

In 1976 Arizona went
  • 40-3 in nonconference (which included win streaks of 13, 11, and 16).
  • 16-2 in the WAC (which included a win streaks of 11 including the WAC playoffs.
It was widely proposed that that 1976 team could have beaten many of the MLB teams in a 5 game series.

Of course they ended that 11 game winning streak by getting swept in a 3 game series for the NCAA District Regionals and didn't get to Omaha.

Think you got the year wrong RC. Arizona won the CWS in 1976.

Not to go Greg Hansen on anybody, but I guess I'm about to.

I believe he's referring to the 1974 team, which was 58-4 and was ranked #1 in the country at the start of the NCAAs. They were the Bash Brothers, with huge Dennis Haines behind the plate, Marv Thompson at first, Ron Hassey at third, and Dave Stegman in center. As was often the case, the problem was pitching. They had Dave Breuker, who was pretty good, and not much else. And the problem was masked by all the runs, partially inflated by a soft schedule. They got 32 of those wins against Azusa, Dominguez Hills, Pomona, Denver, Weber, NAU, Iowa, Colorado State, Fairfield, UTEP, and New Mexico. Also a few other teams which are now decent, but weren't then. So the #1 team in the country apparently had a conflict at Hi Corbett with the Tucson Toros and no lights at tiny Wildcat Field. So they were shipped off to Greely, Colorado to play at UNC, where one of the umps was Irv Brown, who was a great basketball ref, but also an athlete at UNC (class of 1957.) And the Cats gave up 6 runs in two games at UNC, while only scoring 5 and 2 themselves, and the Bears went to Omaha.

They went two and barbecue, and USC won another title.
